The Threshold
A personal essay tracing five family dogs — and the mother who guarded, then finally opened, the threshold of the family home to them. "The door stopped being a question and became, simply, a door you opened, gladly, because someone you loved was standing on the other side of it, waiting." The essay uses the literal threshold of a family home as a quiet metaphor for how love slowly widens the boundaries we swear we'll never move.
